A better tomorrow is possible. Living with fibromyalgia (FM) is challenging. We get it because our association is run by people with FM. You are not alone. We provide support, education and advocacy. Our goal, improving lives.

Due to COVID making our work go virtual, we serve people in Michigan and beyond. Our advocacy work and conferences have been national in scope since 1997.

FIBROMYALGIA ASSOCIATION OF MICHIGAN AT A GLANCE

A Bit of Background

People diagnosed with fibromyalgia and related chronic pain often feel alone due to the fact that while Fibromyalgia is an illness that is recognized by the United States government, World Health Organization and more, many people still are not familiar with it. The goal of FAM is to provide an organization so people are not alone and connect them to the best resources as soon as possible. Members receive free monthly E-newsletters and real-time news and updates on Facebook and Twitter.

SUPPORT & EDUCATION GROUP

We are Here for You

Learn how to take control of your fibromyalgia at our positive and informational group. The group, since COVID, meets on Zoom. It's original location was Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren, Michigan.  St. John Providence/Ascension has been an invaluable partner for over 23 years. Over 2000 people have attended our meetings. Physicians regularly refer their fibromyalgia patients to our group. Membership benefits include: learning the latest advances in fibromyalgia research, diagnosis and treatment; expert speakers at meetings; and spending time with other members to learn coping tips and share support. The group is led by FAM's President & Founder Sharon Waldrop, NBC-HWC, who has fibromyalgia and she is a Board Certified Pain Management Health & Wellness Coach & Lifestyle Medicine Coach.

MICHIGAN FIBROMYALGIA AWARENESS DAY

Helping The Community

Learn directly from the world’s most respected fibromyalgia specialists at Michigan Fibromyalgia Awareness Day (MFAD)! The Fibromyalgia Association of Michigan began MFAD in 2001 to give people in Michigan the opportunity to meet experts from across the country. Year after year our conference surveys show that attendees learned new things that will help them better manage their illness. The conference provides a fun learning experience with a volunteer, supportive staff. Another purpose of the event is to raise fibromyalgia awareness in the community, with legislators and the media. Sponsors and exhibitors participate too.

ADVOCACY

Building a Better Tomorrow

Being a patient is complicated. Treatment guidelines, services, insurance, legal policies and more are enacted without the voice of the patient. Join our advocacy alerts to find out how you can add your voice to issues that are/will affect you. You can participate as much or as little as you would like. Together we can create a better tomorrow! Email us for details.

“I never thought I would walk again, get married or have kids. I have done all of these things after being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia at the age of 24.”
